Filters for gas masks are glued by hand. Due to manual dispensing, the amount of glue used varied from product to product and the position of the glue was not always correct. Automatic glue dispensing has several advantages. Reduction of waste, reduction of glue quantity, improvement of cycle time.
The adhesive had to be applied to the edge of the filter. This was not an easy operation as the hot melt could run after application. The equipment was designed to be able to glue several types of filters. To keep the glue from running off the sides of the filter, the seats had to be kept rotating and sent through a small cooling unit to cool and finish the product as quickly as possible.
